The Consular Affairs Service provides important services to Mauritanian citizens residing in the countries of the Embassy’s circle of accreditation (Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland).
The Consular Affairs Service issues some important documents needed by Mauritanian citizens residing in the Embassy’s circle of accreditation, such as Laissez-Passer, Legalisation of Administrative Documents, Powers of Attorney and some Statements that can help the citizen to correct his/her legal status in the above-mentioned countries.
The Consular Affairs Service provides the necessary advice and guidance to members of the Mauritanian community in certain situations they may face (imprisonment, traffic accidents, serious illnesses, death of a member of the community…), and also helps connect members of the community with their families in certain emergency situations.
The registration of the Mauritanian community members residing in the Embassy’s accreditation department requires the following documents
– A copy of the passport or national identity card.
– Residence certificate, and
– A recent photograph.
Attention:
Please inform the Embassy if you change your residence address or if you leave the Embassy’s accreditation district permanently.
Civil status:
The Department of Consular Affairs does not issue civil status documents but certifies documents issued by the National Agency for Population Registry and insured documents pre-certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mauritanians Abroad.
Citizens can use the “Houwiyeti” application to obtain the following documents:
– Passport renewal.
– Marriage Contract Extract,
– Birth Certificat Extract,
– Grey card for cars.

Visas for the Islamic Republic of Mauritania:
The Mauritanian Embassy in Belgium does not issue visas for entry into Mauritanian territory.
As part of the implementation of the new procedures relating to access to national territory. From 5 January 2025, all passengers requiring a visa must obtain an electronic visa before boarding their flight to Mauritania.
